Chris Martin felt ‘worthless’ after his split from Paltrow
LONDON: Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has confessed that he felt ‘completely worthless’ after splitting from actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
They had divorced in 2014 following ten years of marriage.
They are parents to Apple, now 14, and Moses, 12, and famously announced they were consciously uncoupling, leading Martin’s bandmates to fear for his mental state.
Speaking in a new documentary film “Coldplay: A Head Full Of Dreams”, Martin, 41, said while the band toured their album “Mylo Xyloto” he felt “completely worthless and nothing to anybody.”
Added Martin: “I was just like, ‘I’m a mess’, really, because I can’t enjoy the great things around me. Then, of course, I went through a break-up with Gwyneth. Listen, I’m never going to moan, I’m grateful for everything, but it was pretty touch and go.”
His bandmates Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion along with their former manager Phil Harvey were concerned for their friend, with Harvey confessing: “Your mind can go to the worst case scenario. I was worried about him to the extent that I was just really glad to get a text in the morning just to know he was OK.”
Both Martin and Paltrow have moved on. Martin is currently dating “Fifty Shades Of Grey” actress Dakota Johnson, 29, while Paltrow, 46, married American TV director Brad Falchuk in September.
