Vice principal wins fourth place in Astro singing competition
KOTA KINABALU: Tenom-born Sabahan Wesley Liew Kuok Yit won fourth place in the 18th Astro Classic Golden Melody Singing Competition.
Liew, 48, also won the Most Popular Award at the grand final held at the Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting on November 3.
“I wish to thank Sabahans for their support.
“I had friends from Sabah, West Malaysia and even Singapore showing up at the grand final to give me moral support,” he said.
Since the grand final, Liew said he had received over 500 text messages congratulating him.
He was, however, disappointed for letting his supporters down for not winning the top three spots in the competition.
Liew admitted that it was the pressure of the competition that had affected his performance.
“The past three weeks were real physical tests due to the nonstop rehearsals and learning the songs.”
Nonetheless, Liew thanked Astro for giving him the opportunity to be part of the Astro Classic Golden Melody Singing Competition and the mentors for their guidance.
The vice principal of Beaufort Middle School also thanked his colleagues and board of governors for their understanding and support as well.
He is not giving up being an educator anytime soon though, despite his music career.
“Like I said, singing is my dream. But education is something I aspire to do as a lifetime career.”
Moving on, Liew will be taking on commercial work for a local beverage manufacturer and beauty products.
He has previously filmed a property commercial for Mah Sing Group.
Liew will also be filming another singing show which airs on AEC Channel 301 or 306, from 8.30pm to 10pm every Saturday.
