SMC president looks into problems at central market

-

SANDAKAN: Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) president Datuk Peter Hii Chang Lik, upon receiving several complaints, personally inspected problems faced by hawkers at the Sandakan Central Market yesterday.

“I have met with the sellers at the market and listened to their problems myself. I found that their complaints do need extra attention from the SMC. I will ask a few SMC officers and personnel for explanation regarding these problems,” he said.

Hii said that he did not want the problems faced by the hawkers to continue and the problems needed to be solved as soon as possible.

“I will also ask the responsible officers and personnel to take action and do their jobs, in line with the government's call today: to prioritise more efficient service and to meet the local community's expectation,” he said.

Hii also asked the sellers at the market to have awareness on the cleanliness aspect of their stall's surroundings, for the comfort of the users as well as visitors.

He said that the awareness is important among the sellers, and the sellers should not rely only on SMC to keep the market clean, but should also keep it clean themselves.

“Although SMC has arranged personnel to ensure the cleanliness of the market, we (SMC) still need the sellers to collaborate with us by not throwing rubbish around their stalls.

“The habit to keep clean should be in every seller, and not only keep clean because they are afraid that they will be issued with a compound. The practice to keep their respective stalls clean could reduce the risk of contagious disease and at the same time create a comfortable and cheerful market of the local community,” he explained.
