Tawau school receives funding for whiteboards
TAWAU: Sri Tanjong Assemblyman Datuk Jimmy Wong Sze Phin, through his YB Development Fund contributed 12 pieces of teaching whiteboards worth RM24,000 to SJKC Yuk Chin Tawau on Friday.
The contribution was received by the chairman of the school board, Shim Paw Fatt, witnessed by the vice-chairman Pan Pet Chun, school principal Chang Li Yun, Tawau councilor Yap Wui Lip and Sri Tanjung Pemaju Mukim Lee Yung Chung.
Earlier, Jimmy was informed by the school that the new school building was facing a shortage of whiteboards while he was representing Chief Minister Shafie Apdal to officially launch the new building.
It was learnt that all classrooms in the new building needed a total of about 30 whiteboards.
Jimmy said he will assist the school to liase with Kalabakan member of parliament Ma’mun Sulaiman and Merotai assemblyman Sarifuddin Hata, as well as the assistant finance minister to assistance.
At the recently concluded Budget 2019 sitting, the chief minister announced that allocation for scholarship, bursaries and cash aid will be increased to RM52 million next year, as compared to RM37 million in year 2018.
On top of that, the state government will set aside RM10 million through its state foundation (Yayasan Sabah) to provide a one-off payment to capable under-privileged students. This form of assistance has been kickstarted this year and shall continue on next year with the same amount of allocation.
Furthermore, the state government has also announced that allocation for missionary schools and private schools will be increased from RM12 million in 2018 to RM15 million in 2019.
