Association backs SMC President’s vision
SANDAKAN: A delegation from Sandakan Indian Association (SIA) recently paid a courtesy on Sandakan Municipal Council President Datuk Peter Hii Chang Lik to express the association’s support for his vision to bring the town back to its glory days.
The SIA delegation was led by their President Taren Sunil Manoharan. Also present were Secretary Jocelyn Lee, Assistant Secretary Uigeswaran A/L Thiruvewgaban and senior member Manoharan A/L Ramasamy.
“We thank Peter for allocating a slot in his very tight schedule to receive us and we had a very rewarding discussion on current matters,” said Taren.
The delegation took the opportunity to congratulate Peter on his appointment as the new council president. SIA also invited Peter to their Deepavali function scheduled for early December.
“We are honoured and delighted that Peter has accepted our invitation,” added Taren.
“Peter stressed that there will be lots of work to do to bring further progress and development to Sandakan.
“He also advised us that all parties concerned, including SIA, must work together for the betterment of the town,” he said.
“We fully concur with our SMC President’s advice and SIA will support policies that the council has already implemented as well as other future programmes.
“I am confident that SIA can contribute more effectively since we now have a representative in the town council,” he emphasized.
On behalf of SIA, Taren presented the SMC President with a ‘ponnadai’ as a traditional show of respect for people of distinction.
