Arau rep’s bold, emotional speech ‘unites’ Azmin-Rafizi

-

SHAH ALAM: It has taken a bold and emotional speech from a representative from Perlis to unite ‘two rivals’ – Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Mohd Rafizi Ramli – who are involved in an intense rivalry while competing for party deputy president post.

Both Mohamed Azmin and Mohd Rafizi were seen shaking hands and hugging as Arau division deputy chief Tengku Nazeri Tengku Aldin finished delivering his bold and emotional speech chastising the ‘bitter’ rivalry and mudslinging between the two during the recent party election process.

“We, either from Rafizi team or Azmin Ali’s team, we fought like there was no tomorrow. Is this really what we want our children to inherit?

“I say that we fail ... what are we fighting for? Because we want to show that we are better than the other person? Who is better? Who is superior?” he said this when debating the presidential’s policy speech at the PKR National Congress 2018 yesterday.

Tengku Nazeri then called on leaders and delegates to open a new chapter to pursue the party’s struggles under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Today we have Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the party president, we don’t need two heroes, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is our leader,” he said amidst loud cheers from over 2,000 delegates who attended the congress at the Ideal Convention Center (IDCC ) here.

Tengku Nazeri also asked Anwar to ensure the party’s elections in the future would be smooth running, unlike this year’s election which he claimed was ‘problematic’.

The current PKR Election 2018 used the concept of ‘one-member one-vote’ implemented in stages to select the representatives to the Central Leadership Council, namely the deputy president, vice-presidents, AMK (Youth) chief, Wanita chief and members of the council.

He also suggested the party’s president to send the party’s Central Election Committee (JPP) members to India to study the electoral process there which was reported to be more organised despite tens of millions of voters.

“We ask our president to pay attention to future party elections. We don’t want this kind of election. Please reforms the system, with only less than 200,000 voters turned up for the e-voting process and yet it took days to tally the ballots.

“In India, there are tens of millions of voters, and it was managed smoothly. So I ask the president to send the JPP to India to study on how to run the election,” he said, greeted by repeated ‘reformasi’ (reform) shouted by the audience. Bernama
