Christina discusses Labuan’s tourism potential with Labuan Corporation

-

KOTA KINABALU: Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministe Datuk Christina Liew has called on Labuan tourism players to come up with more tourism packages to attract more tourists.

Christina said she is certain that there would be a spillover of tourists to Labuan given the high potential that the island currently possesses.

She expressed her hope that Labuan could one day be promoted internationally.

“With the tourism packages, tourists may want to stop by Labuan and stay there for one or two days. Having the packages would make it easier for them to come. It would be hard to promote Labuan without tourism packages,” Christina told Labuan Corporation chairman Datuk Seri Amir Hussien when the latter paid a courtesy call at her office on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Amir informed that Labuan is in the midst of developing those packages.

He also said that ‘quietness’ is one of the products of Labuan and had encouraged more tourism operators to come to Labuan.

Christina, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, said the purpose of the courtesy call was for her ministry and Labuan Corporation to meet and exchange views on how to unlock Labuan’s tourism potential.

Labuan’s historical aspect such as its World War Two connections, shipwrecks, train and barter trade centres are among the many attractions that make Labuan one of the most interesting places to visit in the country.
