LDP forms bureau to help eradicate corruption
KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has established a Public Complaints Bureau to complement the government’s effort in eradicating corruption and power abuse.
Its president Datuk Chin Su Phin said members of the public who had encountered unfair treatment in the process of applying for licences or submission of documents to government departments could lodge their complaints with the bureau.
The Public Complaints Bureau is headed by Dexter Lim with Chin as the advisor.
“The mission of the bureau is the assist the government in fighting corruption.
“The sole effort of the government is insufficient to eradicate graft.
“It requires the concerted effort of all parties and LDP is willing to assist the government in its effort to eliminate corrupt practices,” he said this after chairing the first Supreme Council meeting here yesterday following LDP Conference cum Election on October 21.
Chin believed that the issue of power abuse or corruption might still be lurking in certain district councils and government departments.
With the setting up of the Public Complaints Bureau, he hoped that the people would also play their part in helping the government to put a stop to misuse of power and graft.
“Members of the public who have received unfair treatment from government officers could bring along their evidence and lodge a complaint with the bureau.
“We need the cooperation of the people in order to effectively bring corrupt or authority-abusing officers to justice.”
Chin said some business operators had resorted to paying agents to apply licences for them to avoid the trouble of dealing with uncooperative officers.
“We urge businesses not to spend unnecessary money on these agents because this is one of the reasons contributing to corrupt practices.
“Business operators should personally apply the licences themselves.
“Anyone who encounters government officers who deliberately make things difficult for them can call LDP headquarters immediately at 088-413288 to file a complaint.”
Chin was elected without contest to helm the party during the party election last month, after which he announced the appointment of Senator Datuk Yong Wui Chung and Datuk Albert Ngan for the secretary-general and treasurergeneral posts respectively.
He has also appointed David Ong and Goh Soo Yee as deputy secretary general and deputy treasurer general respectively during the Supreme Council meeting, while Simon Chin Hock Siong and Chang Bah Sing were appointed as publicity officer and organizing secretary.
In addition, Yong Chee Wee, Wong Chan Kwon, Datin Shim Nyat Yun, Lim Young Peing, Francis Yong Teck Foh, Nancy Lim Guah Eng, Cheu Chan Yung and Datuk Anthony Lai Vai Ming were appointed as Supreme Council members.
The appointment of two vice president posts is reserved for the time being.
On the other hand, Chin also authorized his deputy president Datuk Lim Ming Hoo to manage the party’s affairs in Sandakan, including restructuring the three divisions Sekong, Gum-Gum and Elopura, to better serve the people in the constituency.
“We hope to win back the people’s support in Sandakan in the next general election.”
