Over 29,000 obtain jobs through Human Capital Empowering program

-

TAWAU: Some 29,453 job seekers have secured employment under the Human Capital-Empowering Program - Youth with Employers through the Sabah Job Centre Unit of the Education and Innovation Ministry.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Azis Jamman, who is also Wira Warisan Sabah chief, said 4,756 local youths successfully obtained employment through the Human Capital Empowerment Program and 24,679 people through the Job Portal system.

Azis said the government had always been sensitive to the youths and encouraged them in various programs and career training that benefit them. Various work initiatives in creating job opportunities for local youths have succeeded to some extent in addressing the growing unemployment problems in our country.

The government, he said, is always working together with private agencies to provide several technical or semi-skilled technical training programs to improve the quality and capability of the youth market, especially in the hope of providing competent, competitive and sustainable talent to fill in the jobs that require skills.

Azis, who was represented by Tanjong Batu assemblywoman Datuk Hamisa Samat when officiating the Human Capital Empowerment Program organized by Sabah Job Centre Unit of the Education and Innovation Ministry and other agencies at SJK (C) Yuk Chin yesterday, reminded youths not to be choosy about jobs as it can affect their future and contribute to an increase in the unemployment rate in the state.

He said the syndrome to choose jobs should be avoided for the progress of the people and the country in the increasingly challenging global competitive era today. Being choosy will also encourage the entry of foreign workers, thereby negatively affecting the social and economic development of the state.

Rather, Azis said, job seekers need to increase their knowledge in the field to prepare themselves for new challenges in the world of careers.

In fact, there are plenty of job vacancies and need for workers in the same field, as long as the youths are not too choosy. Apart from that, the government is always in the process of leveraging and channeling various facilities and financial assistance for those who have the skills and want to start a business or be self-employed to generate their own economy, he said.

A total of 23 employers made offers of employment during the program yesterday. Also present were Labour Department deputy director Hj Mohd Fauzi Abdul Ghani, and Education and Innovation Ministry chief assistant secretary Aming Runggan.
