JOHOR BAHRU: The AuditorGeneral's Report 2017 revealed that a total of 29 assets belonging to the Johor Public Works Department (JKR) previously acquired for road maintenance work, were not used and lying idle after recruitment works were privatised to two concessionaires.

The two companies are Amona Infra Care Sdn Bhd (Amona) and Teto Engineering Sdn Bhd (Teto).

The report which was presented at the State Assembly yesterday, said the assets valued at RM2.31 million included various types of equipment including Back Hoe Loader Case Super M, Komatsu Grader, Roller New Holland and Premix Testing Machines.

Eight of them belonged to the Kota Tinggi JKR, while the Mersing and Segamat districts each had 11 and 10 assets respectively.

"An audit inspection found that 13 department assets were still in good condition while 16 were found to be faulty.

"A further review of the inspection found that the assets purchased in 2015 had not been used till the date of the audit inspection. Assets that were still in good condition but which were not used, were considered a loss and waste to the Government,” the report said.

In the reply dated Sept 18, the state JKR said that some of the machinery had a lifespan that had exceeded the time frame and were no longer economical to maintain as it was difficult to obtain spare parts, but it added that the backhoe and road line equipment were still being used.

"Machinery that were over 20 years were recommended for disposal using the Online Vehicle Rating System. However, disposal approvals were under the authority of the Johor State Chief Mechanical Engineer (KJMN).
