LAHAD DATU: The success of Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) in foiling several cross border crimes, including the shooting dead of seven criminals in Tawau and Felda Sahabat is due to cooperation and teamwork from all parties.

ESSCom Chief Executive Officer Noor Alam Khan A Wahid Khan said the Police, Malaysian Armed Forces and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency had always provided assistance and support needed by ESSCom in safeguarding the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).

“The support and cooperation from all parties including the enforcement agencies in assisting ESSCom in term of assets and manpower have successfully foiled several cross border crimes,” he said in his speech at the ESSCom monthly assembly yesterday.

The monthly assembly served as a platform to gather all ESSCom members and further strengthen the ties as well as cooperation between all members to increase the quality of their service and boost their delivery system to the community.

Commenting on ESSCom GSPS (Gerak Saraf, Perang Saraf) activity, Noor Alam said the activity is always given attention by ESSCom as it is the connector between ESSCom and the community.

He said the activity need to be improved and strengthened because through the activity the community could convey their views and comments to ESSCom.

“Although ESSCom faces financial constraints to implement the activity this year, it needs to be continued so that the community could interact with the security forces.

“Not only that, through this GSPS the community could convey various security information and local issues that needed immediate attention from security forces in efforts to reduce crime, especially cross border crimes such as smuggling and illegal immigrants,” he added.

Fifty-two officers and members of ESSCom received certificates of appreciation during their monthly assembly at the marine police base.

The certificates, presented by Noor Alam, were aimed to appreciate their support and cooperation towards ESSCom throughout the year.

During the ceremony, ESSCom also presented certificates of appreciation to 36 personnel from other agencies, including the marine police force from Kudat, Tawau, Sandakan, Kunak, Semporna and Lahad Datu.

The certificates were to appreciate their contribution in assisting ESSCom in implementing various security operations in Sabah’s East Coast.
