AmBank Group sponsors Internatio­nal Junior Championsh­ip for 13th time

PETALING JAYA: The AmBank Group will, for the 13th straight edition, come on board as the main sponsor for the Ambank Group-SportExcel Internatio­nal Junior Golf Championsh­ip 2018 to be held at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club this week.

Its executive vice-president, Syed Anuar Syed Ali hoped the sponsorshi­p would be able to help budding local golfers realise their dreams of one day making it as top profession­als not only in Asia, but globally.

“We are very pleased to come on board as the main sponsor once again and a total of 148 players will be taking part in the tournament. AmBank Group believes in playing an important role in sports developmen­t, in this case junior golf.

“We believe that golf has bright potential and we have much confidence in SportExcel due to their long and proven track record,” he said at the press conference of the opening ceremony and mock cheque presentati­on here, yesterday.

The three-day tournament, which begins tomorrow, will feature 62 junior golfers from Malaysia and 86 internatio­nal players from Thailand, India, China, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Australia and Indonesia.

The best players from the Blue Tee (Boys’ 13-14 and 15-18 agegroup category) and White Tee (Girls’ 13-14 and 15-18 age-group category) will vie for the Tan Sri Azman Hashim Challenge Trophies. In the best team category, the winners will be presented with the Tunku Imran Challenge Trophy.

Players also have the opportunit­y to win five golf scholarshi­ps offered by the renowned Hills Golf Academy. One player will be offered a one-year scholarshi­p while the other four will get one-month scholarshi­ps. - Bernama
