KOTA KINABALU: Marking the beginning of the festive season, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu hosted the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the lobby lounge here on Monday.

The hotel unveiled its Christmas theme for this year, ‘A Journey to the North Pole’, as a salute to the popular 1985 children’s book written by Chris Van Allsburg - ‘The Polar Express’.

Its board of directors, restaurant diners, in-house guests and media friends were in attendance to witness the luminous lighting ceremony.

The hotel lobby was transformed into a wonderland with a 10-foot Christmas tree featuring train tracks and spectacular fairy lights. Hyatt Regency Kinabalu also showcased the engine of a team locomotive train in The Lounge, train station signage in the car porch area and various whiteand blue-themed decorations to show the spirit of the season and centred on the wonder of ‘The Polar Express’.

“Christmas is all about giving, love and care. At Hyatt, we truly want to share the joy of Christmas with those who are less fortunate than us.

“This year, we are collecting Christmas presents for the children from the orphanage homes of Care for the Future Malaysia, Good Shepherd and Care Haven.

“We can make a difference in the lives of the orphans with our simple act of generosity,” said Thor Gervasi, general manager of Hyatt Regency Kinabalu.

Christmas carolers will be serenading The Lounge from December 22 to 24, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
