MOM: CDM must have more than one deputy
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Olympic Council (MOM) wants the contingent Chef-De-Mission (CDM) to the Philippines 2019 SEA Games Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin to present the need to appoint more than one deputy CDM.
Its president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said the move was appropriate looking at the SEA Games competition venues involving three cities, namely, Manila, Subic dan Clark.
‘’We wait for Datuk Megat Zulkarnain’s presentation on his requirements and we will see if one or two CDM are needed and from there we will detail it out and make our appointments.
‘’We must know the SEA Games this time has three main venues and the Philippines have listed 56 types of sports which is the highest in the organisations of the event to date. This is a big responsibility,’’ he said after a ceremony to hand over a bus from Bank Rakyat to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) yesterday.
He said this when commenting on the suggestion made by Megat Zulkarnain who felt that the CDM for the 30th SEA Games needed at least two deputy CDM to supervise the movements and the operations of the secretariat when the festival was taking place.
Mohamad Norza said the selection of athletes to represent Malaysia depended on the actual number of events to be contested at the SEA Games, which would be decided by the host and the SEA Games Federation in January.
The 30th edition of the SEA Games, is scheduled from Nov 30 to Dec 10 next year and it would be the fourth time the Philippines would be hosting the festival after the 1981, 1991 and 2005 editions.
Megat Zulkarnain, who was also former MOM vicepresident, was a deputy CDM at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia in August.
