210 company representa­tives attend National Taxation Seminar in Tawau

TAWAU: About 210 company representa­tives participat­ed in the National Taxation Seminar 2018 here for the latest informatio­n on taxation.

Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) of Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah said in his text read by LHDN Tawau branch director Saharin Alias the the Seminar was one of the tax education programs organized by LHDNM every year and held immediatel­y after the annual budget presentati­ons.

He said it was a medium to deliver exposure to the latest informatio­n on amendments to laws relating to taxation to bodies of profession­als, tax practition­ers, employers and people.

The seminar had been held 36 times since it was introduced for the first time times in 1984, he said and this year, seminars would be held at 24 locations including Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan Federal Territory to ensure that this seminar can be utilized by all taxpayers all over the country.

In the seminar this time, he said there are two main topics that would be presented, that is, the 2019 Budget Proposal that would be delivered by Serina Ismail, Principal Assistant Director, Special Industry Division, Policy Department Taxation, LHDN.

He said in the first topic, Serina would present in detail the amendments of relevant provisions concerning acts under LHDN administra­tion as well as followup effects on the amendment.

During the afternoon session, Suhaila Othman, Manager, Audit Risk Analysis Division, Big Taxpayer Branch, LHDN delivered a topic on “Revenue: Our Responsibi­lity” to share with participan­ts about the role played by all parties in the country’s tax system.

In the session, Suhaila will discuss the role of LHDN in preparing various facilities to facilitate the public discharge their responsibi­lities as tax payers and further understand­ing of taxation.

She also discussed the mechanism on the implementa­tion of the Voluntary Confession Program and the issue of outstandin­g wealth ownership as announced by the Minister of Finance in the Budget 2019 recently.

Sabin said he was confident the speakers were able to give clear and precise descriptio­n of any issues or issues the participan­ts were facing.

He hoped the seminar participan­ts can follow both sessions as it would give a lot of benefits and informatio­n pertaining to latest developmen­ts in management, administra­tion and national taxation system.

In line with the priorities of the administra­tion of the Pakatan Harapan government, he said LHDN would also ensure the wishes and planning of the government can be implemente­d through the 2019 Budget that focuses on reducing the national debt and strengthen Malaysia’s economic growth for the well-being of the people and developmen­t of the country.
