Man jailed for threatening his father
KOTA KINABALU: A man was jailed for 10 months by the Magistrate’s Court here for threatening to injure his father.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie imposed the sentence on Azhal Daud, 20, after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence at a house at Kampung Pondo in Pulau Gaya on October 13.
The accused was convicted under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Albert Basiri told the court that the incident happened when the accused demanded for some money but his father refused to give any.
The accused became angry and threatened to hit his father. The victim then lodged a police report and the accused was later arrested for further investigation.
The court also ordered the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his jail term.
In a separate case, an unemployed man was fined RM25, in default, one day’s jail by the same court yesterday for threatening his brother.
Robert Duin, 43, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 8 (1) (c) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which is punishable by a fine of up to RM25 or a maximum jail of one week, upon conviction.
The offence took place at an unnumbered house in Penampang on December 1.
