Yong re-elected as SAPP chief

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) will play a supporting role for other opposition parties in areas outside its focus, including parties in the United Sabah Alliance (USA) and Gabungan Bersatu Sabah (GBS).

SAPP president Datuk Yong Teck Lee said the party was committed to USA, also known as Gabungan Sabah, led by Datuk Mohd Noor Mansoor.

“Even though Gabungan Sabah itself is a coalition of political parties, I see no reason why we cannot work with other coalitions that share our common objective for Sabah,” Yong said.

Speaking at the SAPP congress yesterday, Yong said, there was no need for the party to set up branches statewide. Instead, he said, the party would focus on areas in which SAPP could play a leading role.

At the same time, Yong said, SAPP could play a supporting role to the parties in USA and GBS, including supporting Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) in their strongholds in preparation for the 15th general election (GE15).

The congress yesterday also saw Yong being re-elected as the president for the term 2018 to 2022. His deputies are Edward Dagul, Japiril Suhaimin and Datuk Yong We Kong @ Richard.

Meanwhile, Chong Pit Fah, Danim Aloysius Siap, Dato Shuaib Mutalib, Gee Tien Siong, Jamain Sarudin and John Mitah Mikat were all elected as vice presidents of the party.

The supreme council members for the new term are: Abdul Hamid @ Mohd Noor, Brister Mokujal, Chan Kamdin Irene, Chin Chen Sang Dexter, Chin Vui Kai, Joe Yong @ Johari Mohd Ali, John Stephens Dionysius, Lim Kat Chung, Nelson Marcellus, Noraisal Mohd Noor, Soon Tat Foh, Tahir Dahu, Tai Seng Nam, Wong Yu Chin and Yong Chin Yung Charles.
