Support for Chinese road signs move
KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) president Datuk Michael Lui yesterday lauded the Ministry of Local Government and Housing's initiative to study the setting up of Chinese road signs statewide.
He said the chamber would also support and provide assistance for the initiative.
Lui was commenting on the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Hiew Vun Zin's announcement that his ministry was studying the setting up of Chinese road signs all over Sabah and the project was expected to materialize in the near future.
Hiew also sought the cooperation and assistance from Chinese chambers of commerce in the state to translate the existing road signs.
Lui said there was not enough Chinese road signs in the state.
“We hope the Ministry of Local Government and Housing could erect signboards in Mandarin at popular tourist destinations.
“The signboards should also include a brief introduction of the attraction so that visitors, especially Chinese tourists, could have a better understanding of our tourism product.”
He said tourism promotion was an important task and KKCCCI hoped that the relevant government departments could expedite the setting up of Chinese road signs as soon as possible.
