Sabah Ports Toastmasters Club holds 9th installation ceremony
KOTA KINABALU: Thirteen officers for the Sabah Ports Toastmasters Club (SPTMC), led by Datin Mariam Mahmun, were officially installed for the 2018-2019 term during the Club’s 9th Installation High-Tea on October 19 at the Marriott Hotel, here.
Also installed into office were Gavin U Chun Hung as vice president education, Junita Tajul Ariffin as vice president membership, Suryani Mohd Saidi as vice president public relations, Hartini Kamis as treasurer, Oscar Gilbert Francis as secretary, and Debra Delores Michael and Sharul Firdaus Awang Sahari as sergeants-at-arms with Imelda Marie Milus as the immediate past president.
The four committee members are Soh Wan Ru, Selamat Udin, Aslezah Mohd Yussof and Raynold Benjamin. The installation was conducted by Area K3 director, Dora Voon.
During the function, few members had been recognized for their respective achievements - Siti Noraishah Azizah and Gavin U Chun Hung received the Competent Communicator Awards, Rosiah Farida Siahaan and Thien Kai Ling received the Advanced Communicator Silver awards, Soh Wan Ru received the Advanced Leader Bronze award and Suzan Joseph received the Competent Leader award.
During her maiden speech as the president, Mariam expressed her confidence in Toastmasters as a useful platform to breed new brand of leaders with communication skills among members in SuriaGroup.
Taking “Think Positive, Speak Positive” as the presidential theme, she urged members to inculcate and to spread out words of positivism through their speeches, minds and aptitude as it would eventually create real value in life and overcome challenges.
“Positive thoughts can actually help us build the needed skills.”
Feeling honored to be elected as the nineth president of SPTMC, she also thanked SPTMC members for their confidence in her to lead the Club for the term 2018/2019 and hope the term would be another successful term for SPTMC.
Meanwhile, outgoing president, Imelda Marie Milus, announced in her speech that the club had achieved the Select Distinguished Club Award for the term 2017-2018.
She also thanked the management of Suria Group and Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd for their continuous support.
During the term, she said the club together with Kota Kinabalu Advanced Toastmasters Club had sponsored the charter of a new club, Kota Kinabalu Athena Toastmasters Club and wished the new club all the best.
Group managing director Ng Kiat Min was the Guest of Honour. Also present were the management and staff of Suria Group, Division K director, Sylma Jepin and Area K3 Director, Dora Voon and Toastmasters members from the Kota Kinabalu area clubs.
SPTMC is a corporate club chartered on March 2010 and membership is limited to the management and staff of Suria Capital Holdings Berhad and its subsidiaries.
