BIMP-Eaga Business Council to work with IDS – Roselan

KOTA KINABALU: BIMPEaga Business Council (BEBC) Malaysia is seeking assistance from the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) Sabah to implement developmental programmes.

“Many developmental programs cannot be well executed without knowledge. Whilst BEBC knows what to do, but IDS knows how to do it.

“It is with this understanding that BEBC made a courtesy call to IDS to foster a relationship commonly called as symbiotic relationship,” said BEBC Malaysia Chairman Datuk Roselan Johar Mohamed.

“Ambition without knowledge is just like a ship on dry land.

“We are very grateful to IDS for offering us the vast display of research studies and papers accumulated since its first inception.

“These papers offer tonnes of strategic information which are very relevant to modern day businesses,” he said.

On hand to receive the BEBC delegates was IDS new Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Dr Johan Arriffin Abd Samad.

Roselan led the BEBC delegation comprising BEBC State Chairman, Carl Mossoom and Executive Secretary, Junzuenn Basalan in the visit that was in line to propel Sabah as the new food basket of Asean.

Both Roselan and Carl concured with Johan on the need to explore the true potential of eco-tourism.

Meanwhile, IDS was also looking forward to explore more areas of mutual cooperation with the BEBC in the hope that Sabah can explore new ways of economic development for the betterment of the people, especially on job creation and land utility.

Johan went on to explain that BEBC and IDS play facilitation roles in agriculture and the oil and gas industry particularly as the subject matter was his bread and butter once upon a time ago.

“Sabah is marketable in that sense and these are considered low lying fruits where tapping it will immediately attract investors within and out of bimp countries,” he said.

In the meantime, Roselan has invited IDS to visit Chengdu’s vast agricultural technology centre so that IDS too can forge a working relationship with them.
