Thonburi in final of four-cornered Asean football tournament

KOTA KINABALU: Thonburi Inter Thailand beat Tuak FC Indonesia to reach the final of the Asean Four Corner Football Veteran Tournament at the Likas Stadium, tonight.

Thonburi, however, had to slug it out before winning on penalties in a fiercely contested match, yesterday.

Both sides drew 1-1 in regulation time after a scoreless first half. The match was then determined by penalties which saw Thonburi go through, 4-2.

Thonburi will face the winner in the match between SS90'S Sabah and the Brunei Darussalam Veteran Football Associatio­n (VFA) team held at the same venue at 7.30pm, last night.

Before the finals the play-off match to determine third and fourth place will be played at 4pm.

Present to witness the matches yesterday was Infrastruc­ture Developmen­t Minister Datuk Peter Anthony, who is also president of the Malaysia Kadazandus­un Murut Organisati­on (KDM Malaysia)cum-acting president of the Sabah Football Associatio­n (SAFA).

In addition to soccer matches, the competitio­n also offers prizes through lucky draws tickets which were distribute­d free-of- charge as well as health checks and blood donation campaigns.

The grand prize for the lucky draw is a Perodua Axia sponsored by Syarikat TBT Sdn Bhd. There are also 10 motorcycle­s and 50 bicycles to be won.
