Kiulu villagers receive little Christmas miracle

-

KOTA KINABALU: Junior Chamber international Kota Kinabalu (JCIKK) brought a little Christmas miracle to the community of Kondis Point and the villagers of Kampung Ratau, Kiulu, over a two-day period project.

For the first day of the project, JCIKK visited Kondis Point, Kiulu, and were welcomed by the caroling group from SDA Pangasaan Children Ministry, Tamparuli.

JCIKK hosted a Christmas barbecue dinner with funds raised through its Tingkod Noh Plastic Straws Christmas pouch and stainless-steel straws sales, and also handed out shoebox Christmas presents to the children which were sponsored by the public.

A small donation was also made to aid with the renovation of their local church.

The next day, under the direction of organizing chairman Jonathan Sim and president Daphne Lo, JCIKK successfully organized its fifth freeMarket project at Kampung Ratau, Kiulu.

People say that nothing in life is free but what if you could actually take anything you like without having to pay a single cent for it? It may sound too good to be true, but that is what the freeMarket is all about.

As its name suggests, the market has a concept similar to a regular flea market, except that everything you see there can be yours, for free. All the items brought to the freeMarket are preloved items collected from the public prior to the project date.

To add on to the Christmas joy, JCIKK distributed sponsored shoebox Christmas presents, and Nan Tian Gong sponsored and presented each and every child a toy.

JCIKK thanked The Box for sponsoring Christmas lunch for all the villagers.

The Tingkod Noh Plastic Straws gave a talk to spread on the awareness on the impact of plastic straws and single use plastics on our planet and also to distribute stainless steel straws to the community.

Basic medical health checks, counselling and health advice were also provided for the villagers by two of JCIKK members who are health professionals.

JCIKK hopes to continue to create impactful and meaningful projects that make a difference in our community.
