Non-Muslim among 105 taking part in mass circumcision
TAWAU: A non-Muslim was among 105 children who underwent a mass circumcision organised by the Malaysian Armed Forces’ Joint Task Force 2 (ATB2) and the Al-Kauthar Mosque here yesterday.
Together with the Muslim children participating in the programme, Herry Maxsons Herman, 11, of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Kuok Ming, stood in line in the mosque compound where they were sprayed with a water cannon from a fire engine by ATB2 commander Brigadier General Datuk Zarondin Md Amin.
His mother, Arina Ak Wan, who is an Iban of mixed blood, between Dayak and Murut, said her son voluntarily wanted to participate in the programme as most of his Muslim friends in schools had been circumcised.
“In fact circumcision is good and whoever that knows the importance of circumcision will go for it. The male members in my family, like my husband, father and brothers have been circumcised, and after this, I’ll also send Herry’s two brothers, aged 10 and four, for circumcision,” she said.
Meanwhile, Zarondin said the response was unexpected with up to 200 children wanting to participate in the programme.
“But due to shortage of equipment, we can only have 105 children,” he added.
Zarondin said following the encouraging response, ATB@ would make it an annual programme.
Meanwhile, Al Kauthar Mosque chairman Khalid Tahir said the programme could be carried out twice a year, during the school holiday in June and in December. Bernama
