Prasarana puts education top of agenda in 5-year plan

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, the public transport infrastructure provider in the country, is putting its education programme as a main agenda item in its Five-Year Transformation Plan.

Group chief operating officer (GCOO) – Strategy and Transformation, Ang Yoke Kee said under the leadership of President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohamed Hazlan Mohamed Hussain, the company has combined its rail and bus academy into Pendidikan Prasarana, aiming to also emphasise soft skills of trainees, who are already employees of the company.

“We have plans to upgrade Pendidikan Prasarana into a college and perhaps collaborate with our foreign technical partners from China (China Communications Construction Co Ltd) and Canada (Bombardier Inc) to set up centres of excellence on research and development, innovation and so on. “However, at this point, it is still in the planning stage and we are working closely with the Finance Ministry (MOF) and Transport Ministry to get their feedback and support,” he told reporters after the Prasarana Group Graduation Ceremony 2018 yesterday.

He said since the appointment of Mohamed Hazlan, Muhammad Nizam Alias (Operating GCOO) and himself by MOF to Prasarana in early September this year, the group has outlined 43 initiatives to improve its overall operation and business.

“Being the only land transport company, Prasarana is in a unique position as we are able to provide real-life experience training and education to our trainees.

“This is why the first emphasis given is to improve education and up-skill the local talents, including efforts to enhance knowledge like managing costs, increasing efficiency and quality of service, and improving the ridership on our rail, bus and ferry services,” said Ang.
