Stop paying ‘failed’ contractors – Jimmy
TAWAU: Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Jimmy Wong Sze Phin has called on the president of Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) Alijus Sipil to withhold payment or stop paying contractors who failed to perform their duties.
Jimmy, who is also Sri Tanjong assemblyman, said many contractors seemed to have yet awakened and still possessed perfunctory attitude in their daily work as in the days of the previous government (Barisan Nasional-BN) although the new Sabah Government had been in power for more than six months.
He said this to the media after discovering certain contractors had failed to carry out cleaning and repair works in accordance with their contract during site visits at several places here yesterday.
Jimmy claimed that some of them never fulfilled their duties since the beginning but accepted payments every month.
“Therefore, I strongly urge the council to review the performance of the contractors and for those who are unwilling to collaborate, payments to them must be withheld or stop making payments to them,” he added.
Recently, Jimmy also wrote a letter to Alijus and submitted a copy to the Deputy Chief Minister cum Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong to monitor the service attitude and performance of all contractors.
According to him, it is necessary for the council to review the contracts of irresponsible contractors and give opportunities to the competitive contractors who are willing to serve the people and the country.
