Public eager to see ferry up and running — BEBC

-

KOTA KINABALU: Government agencies are never created for employment purposes but with a certain mission to serve the rakyat, to nurture and to protect the country’s sovereignty.

This was clearly explained to the visiting delegates from BIMPEAGA Business Council (BEBC) by director of Jabatan Laut Malaysia, Nurjipin Saidi at his Sepanggar office yesterday.

The visit was an move by BEBC to seek an amicable solution and to expedite the commencement of a ferry service that was supposed to commence earlier this year.

So far, the government of Malaysia has spent close to RM10 million on a new ramp to facilitate the ferry berthing in Kudat.

On the other side, the government of the Philippines has build a new trunk road linking Puerto Princesa to Bulliluyan in the south, as well as a new wharf to accommodate the ferry.

After some lengthy discussion and negotiation, Datuk Roselan Johar and Carl Moosom, the BEBC Sabah chairman, left the meeting feeling very satisfied that the government knows many things and has good officers to determine what is right for the betterment of the nation.

“We truly hope the owners of the Fastcat Ferries will fully comply with the required documentation for the good of everyone involved. Both trading and traveling public are just too eager to see this ferry up and running,” said Moosom.
