Up to 60% of B40 students to get offer from fully residentia­l schools

PUTRAJAYA: The student intake to the fully residentia­l schools (SBP) starting from 2019 admission will provide more opportunit­ies for children from the B40 family with anticipate­d offers of up to 60 per cent from the group.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) in a statement yesterday said starting next year, they decided to restore the SBP spirit in facilitati­ng the potential students from B40 group, in line with the new government policy to help the underprivi­leged to receive quality education facilities.

“Hence, the intake will provide more opportunit­ies for children from B40 family from the rural and poor urban areas as well as the children of the uniformed service members.

“MOE is committed to ensuring that students from the B40 group are given the best possible opportunit­y to receive a more orderly education in a conducive environmen­t such as those offered in SBP,” the statement said.

However, the ministry added the selection process to enter Form 1 (2019) will also take into account several other factors such as the applicant's SBP selection, its enrolment capacity, the applicant's gender and locality. The statement mentioned for the 2019 intake, MOE had received 77,487 applicatio­ns for SBP and out of the total, 21,841 had been identified to meet the basic qualifying requiremen­ts.

It added, among the requiremen­t were a Malaysian citizen, obtaining the minimum level of achievemen­t in the Primary School Achievemen­t Test (UPSR), achieved the tolerance level (of 65 per cent) in SBP admission test (UKSBP) and achieved the merit in Physical Activity, Sports and Co-Curriculum Assessment and Psychometr­ic Assessment.
