SKA Sabah bag silver, 10 bronzes in James Lo Cup
KOTA KINABALU: Shotokan Karate Association of Sabah (SKAS) bagged one silver and 10 bronze medals at the 2nd Datuk Hanshi James Lo Cup Karate Tournament that was held in Keningau, over the weekend.
The three-day tournament which was organised by the Keningau Sports Complex Karate Club saw Zoeanna Zuntivia Joibi win the silver while other SKAS athletes won the bronze.
“The tournament was a good ground for us to expose our junior fighters to a larger talent pool. It was eye opening for many of them and I am sure it enhanced their skills vastly,” said SKAS president Simon Chia.
Simon also took the opportunity to discuss with Sabah Karate Association (SKA) secretarygeneral Sensei Julian Chin to include SKAS in their future events to continue the growth and learning and Chia said they were pleased to get a positive feedback.
Meanwhile, Simon said SKAS were busy preparing for their upgrading this week, together with the other seniors going for their black belt.
According to Simon, SKAS would also be gearing up for the 18th Cadet, Junior and Under-21 State Level Karate Championships and the Manual Veguillas Memorial International Karate Cup Year 2 in the Philipipines, next month.
Towards this end, Simon thanked SKAS, the athletes and their parents for the utmost support and commitment for the recent outing in Keningau.
“We could not have done it without their support. Big congratulations also to Sensei Anney Henry for the invitation to participate in the championship,” he said.
