Hospital’s board of visitors chief unperturbed over rumours of service termination

-

LIKAS: The Board of Visitors’ chairperson at the Sabah Women and Children Hospital, Dr Pamela Yong said she was not troubled if the tenure of the board was terminated.

However, it will be unusual if the termination comes prior to the end of their term which is December 2019, she said.

She added that she had heard rumours that the board of visitors of other hospitals had already received their termination letter.

“Perhaps, mine is stuck somewhere, so this will probably be our last activity,” she told reporters after presenting a donation of RM9,800 for the purchase of four iron-chelating desferral pumps for the use of Thalassaemia patients at the hospital.

She added that she did not know the reasons for the termination but noted that it was probably to allow room for the new government to appoint their own people whom they can work together with.

Nevertheless, she said that she would continue to help out at the hospital, not as a board of visitors chairperson but with nongovernmental organisations.

“I do have some roles at several NGOs who help out here,” she said.

She also expressed that perhaps it is time for someone to come and bring new idea.

“I cannot sit here forever. (Perhaps) this will spur me to move somewhere else. You cannot improve if you’re stuck in your comfort zone. The new person would be able to bring something new,” she said.
