KEMABONG: The upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations will be merrier and meaningful to the residents of several villages here following the installation of electricity supply to their homes.

Kemabong assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar yesterday said the installation of electricity supply and internal wiring to 37 houses at Kampung Kolorok, 43 houses at Kampung Kapulu and 13 houses at Kampung Ahuron had been completed.

He said similar works at houses at Kampung Katubu, Paitan Tengah Kangkawang and Kampung Masej Ulu Paitan would be completed in time for the Christmas celebration, which falls on December 25.

“More than 500 residents will be enjoying full electricity supply before this year’s Christmas celebration.

“This achievement is a very exciting news for the villagers who have waited for 56 years, since Sabah gained independence, for the supply of electricity to their villages,” said Jamawi in a statement yesterday.

“The electricity supply will greatly improve the living condition of the villagers and also contribute to the upgrading of their economy.

“I am grateful to the government and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) as well as to the contractors for the speedy completion of the power supply installation project,” he added.

One of the villagers, Ansarap Korong, from Kampung Kapulu, said installation of the electricity supply was among the promises made by Jamawi to the villages during the 14th general election in May this year.

“Not even a year yet from his election as the wakil rRakyat (people’s representative) and he (Jamawai) has started delivering his election campaign promises, particularly the much needed electricity supply to our kampungs,” he said.

Another villager, Tuwou Musin, from Kampung Kolorok, quipped that the they had made the right decision in choosing Jamawi as their representative.

“The arrival of Christmas this year is a very meaningful celebration for us,” he said, describing Jamawai’s donation of light bulbs to the villagers as “a reflection of our joy of light for the arrival of Christmas.”
