PUTRAJAYA: The Rural Development Ministry (KPLB) with its focus on human capital development, will increase the number of its Community Development Department (Kemas) transit childcare centres nationwide to over 60 from the current 23 under the Rural Development Plan of Hope 20182023.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun, said human capital was one of the six main thrusts under the plan that had been designed for short-term development towards a more prosperous rural areas. The other five thrusts are infrastructure, economy, entrepreneurship, women and delivery system.

“Continuous and dynamic human capital development will make Malaysia a developed and respected nation,” Rina told reporters after handing over school aid and excellence award to children of KPLB staff here yesterday.

She said Kemas had been playing a big role in early childhood education especially for children in rural areas and a more comprehensive effort had to be carried out for it to be at par with private childcare centres. At the event, the ministry also launched its Red Hero Fund to collect donations from its staff and all agencies, which would be presented to the family of the fallen firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

Muhammad Adib who served as a member of the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (EMRS) of the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue station died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Monday night from injuries sustained during a riot at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ25, Subang Jaya, on Nov 27.-
