Highly Immersive Programme to be implemented in schools
KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Education is implementing Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) in schools that opted out from the Dual Language Programme (DLP) nationwide to create an immersive environment to promote the culture of learning and speaking the English language among students.
Its minister. Dr Maszlee Malik, said the HIP included in-class, out-of-class, extra class and outreach components.
“These activities are dependent on the schools and students' needs.
“Through a stimulating English language immersive environment, students are exposed to the usage of the language in these activities.”
He added that HIP was implemented based on whole school approach that involved school leaders, students, parents and community to support the schools in undertaking best practices to strengthen the usage of English language among students.
Maszlee said that in response to Senator Datuk Yong Wui Chung's question on the effectiveness of DLP introduced in selected schools and measures taken to enhance the English language in schools that chose not to implement the programme during the Dewan Negara sitting here.
He said the ministry was studying the effectiveness of DLP through results of the first cohort of pupils for Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Form 3 Assessment (PT3) that were announced on November 29 and December 13 respectively.
