Uphold unity during Christmas celebratio­n, Sabahans urged

KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans have been urged to uphold unity and understand the importance to maintain it.

State Education and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob whom made the call, said Sabah composed of multiracia­l people from various ethnic groups and all celebratio­ns were celebrated together regardless of race and religion.

With such uniqueness of the Sabah people, he reminded not to let external elements to break them up.

Thus, the younger generation should understand and learn to maintain the unity as well as continuing today’s leaders’ efforts to keep the unity together, he said when attending Upko Christmas open house on Tuesday at the multipurpo­se hall at Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas.

Yusof was representi­ng Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd Shafie Haji Apdal.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau said Upko took the opportunit­y to invite various communitie­s to celebrate Christmas together regardless of race and religion.

He said the unity and racial harmony in Sabah, as reflected during the celebratio­n, should be continued and maintained.

The Upko president also said he was very happy with the good response of the people and wished Sabah people to be blessed, especially with economic developmen­t.

Also present at the event were Head of State, Tun Haji Juhar Datuk Haji Mahiruddin and his consort, Toh Puan Hajah Norlidah Tan Sri RM Jasni.
