Sandakan council urged to appoint more cleaners

-

SANDAKAN: Elopura assemblyman Calvin Chong Ket Kiun suggested that the Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) increase the number of cleaners in Taman Harmoni People’s Housing Project (PPR) here to keep the residential area clean following a number of dengue fever cases recorded in the area.

Chong said that he found that the drains and manholes in Taman Harmoni were clogged with rubbish.

“I will arrange the manhole and sewage system problem to be fixed as soon as possible,” he said.

Chong reminded the residents of Taman Harmoni to keep their surrounding clean, and warned them that they had signed an agreement before living in the residential area that they were not allowed to keep pets, and to have plants around the residential compound.

He also said that the residents were not allowed to conduct business inside their homes to avoid overload in electricity usage.

“I also found that residents here have put some of their furniture and electrical appliances on the walkway. I wish to remind them that SMC will issue a notice for this and if they do not remove the items, they will be seized by SMC as they pose a risk to the safety of residents here,” he said.

He said this after inspecting Taman Harmoni with several SMC personnel here recently.

Meanwhile, Chong suggested that SMC set a curfew for the back entrance of the residential area for the safety of its residents.

He said that security tags used by security personnel at the area should also be upgraded to digital system in order to ensure the safety of the residents here.
