Ex-convict nabbed for robbery at apartment

KOTA KINABALU: A 47-yearold man with four conviction­s for drug and criminal offences was nabbed by the police at 6 pm on December 26, for alleged involvemen­t in a robbery case here.

The suspect was alleged to have broken into an apartment along Jalan Sulaman at around 9 pm on December 19 and stole several valuable items.

According to the report lodged by a 23-year-old resident of the apartment, the front door of the apartment was found unlocked and the sliding door at the balcony open when he and his housemates returned from work.

Among the ten valuable items that were found missing were electronic devices and important documents, which included a wallet, two letters of credit, one gold shop mortgage card and one debit card that were confiscate­d from the suspect.

The suspect's four prior conviction­s included a 13-month jail sentence in 2007 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952; was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code in 2014, was fined RM5,000 under Section 12(2) of the DDA in 2014 and sentenced to three years and four months jail under Section 307 of the Code in 2015.

According to the police, the case will be investigat­ed under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with imprisonme­nt of up to 10 years and a fine, if found guilty.
