State Govt to work closely with NGOs — Christina

-

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government will work closely and regularly meet with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to resolve issues, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew.

She hoped that NGOs would also support the government’s efforts to ensure progress and a brighter future.

Christina, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, said the people of Malaysia, including Sabah, have entered a new era on May 9 last year.

She said the change of government entailed a new approach in moving forward.

“Although there were some challenges in the past seven months, the new government has now stabilized.

“We shall do our best to move forward in 2019,” she said when gracing the installation ceremony of the 38th Management and Supervisory Committees of Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) here on Tuesday.

She also expressed her support towards the various reformations that would be undertaken by KKCCCI.

Christina said she would be happy to meet with KKCCCI president Datuk Michael Lui regularly to discuss ways to better serve the people.

“I promise no matter how busy I am, I will always make time for Datuk Michael Lui when he calls to discuss any issues that arise.”

She said KKCCCI served as a bridge between the government and the people.

She added that Lui had for a long time reflected the sentiments of the people on the ground on current issues.

Despite her hectic schedule, Christina said she was more than willing to listen to Lui’s suggestions on improving the livelihood of the people.

“I hope KKCCCI will continue to work hard in this aspect.”

Also present at the event were Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Liang Caide, Honorary Consul of Australia in Sabah, Datuk Andrew Sim Men Kin, Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce president Tan Sri Andrew Liew, Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Chan Foong Hin, Tan Sri Joseph Lo, Datuk Seri Panglima Teo Chee Kang, Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah and Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce Sabah branch president Datuk Frankie Liew.
