KKCCCI has conducted marriage registration for 16,317 couples
KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) has conducted marriage registration for 16,317 couples, particularly Chinese couples, since the chamber was entrusted by the government to provide the service in 1982.
Its president, Datuk Michael Lui, said the service was an important duty undertaken by the chamber to allow the younger generation to solemnize their marriage.
He thanked the National Registration Department (NRD) for expanding the tenure of three Assistant Registrars of Marriage in KKCCCI.
At present, Lui said the chamber has five Assistant Registrars of Marriage to provide marriage registration service.
Lui said that when officiating at the mass marriage registration ceremony held on Tuesday (Jan 1). The date, 1.1.19, connotes ‘together forever’.
A total of 15 couples chose to tie the knot on this day, witnessed by their friends and families who attended the joyous occasion.
Also present were KKCCCI deputy president Chang Chin Shin, JP, vice president Peter Tiew Sii Neng and management committee member Chung Wan Kiong, who were the three Assistant Registrars of Marriage for the auspicious event.
Meanwhile, newlyweds Tiong Vui Yen and Pung Tzyy Shan won two return air tickets to Hong Kong sponsored by Royal Brunei Airlines for the most photogenic attire.
Other couples also won a variety of lucky draw prizes at the event.
