-

SANDAKAN: Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, who is also Tanjong Papat assemblyman, will organise the Sandakan Chinese New Year Bazaar 2019 at Jalan Pryer, off Old Slipway here, from January 25 until February 3, from 5pm to 10.30pm.

Poon said the location would be decorated with Chinese New Year-themed decorations to fill Sandakan Town with liveliness and festive mood.

“Most locals who grew up in Sandakan must have very fond memories of shopping for the Chinese New Year in town, back in the days. Shopping in town was one of the amazing childhood memories for a lot of locals.

“However, time flies and things have changed as new developments around other areas of Sandakan (satellite towns) were built, the liveliness of Sandakan Town area has gone down.

“I aim to organise the bazaar in town to revive the liveliness of the town we once experienced, and at the same time hope that it will be an attraction to the locals and tourists here,” he said.

Poon said business owners and entrepreneurs were encouraged to register as vendors at the bazaar and they would be charged only RM20 per night.

He said interesting performances such as lion, dragon and cultural dances, and singing would be performed daily throughout the ten days.
