Takada Sunday Market to be relocated soon

-

TAWAU: The Takada Sunday Market at Takada Pertama Commercial Centre here will be relocated to Habib Sheikh Street, Sabindo here soon before Chinese New Year on February 5.

Sri Tanjong Community Development Leader Koo Hung Eow said the relocation of the Takada Sunday Market was necessary due to serious traffic congestion at the Batu 1, Jalan Apas traffic lights and acute shortage of parking spaces.

Koo spoke to reporters after a site visit together with Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) President Alijus Sipil and some councillors including Datuk Chin Chee Syn, also a Tawau activist, yesterday morning.

The team also held a door-todoor consultation session with the shop business operators in Sabindo.

The traders hoped the council could allocate more garbage bins to keep the street clean and tidy.

They also hoped the contractors should be more responsible to clean up the street once after the Sunday Market was over.

The council will block the street for Sunday Market and there is a dire need for the authority to put up more traffic signboards for the safety of all road users.

According to him, the Sunday Market is one of the tourism hotpots in Tawau where every individual regardless of age will patronise the market which has about 500 stalls selling various types of cheap goods, food and beverages.
