State Govt should bar extremists from entering Sabah — LDP

-

KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Youth urged the State Government and the authority concerned to bar any extremist from enterimg the state following the recent objection by a group to the Christmas and New Year celebration in Tawau.

Its spokesperson Shen Fei said the objection made by the group was disrespectful not only towards the Christian community but also towards other religions in the state.

He said the action taken by the group was simply an attempt to undermine the national harmony and even be seen as inciting hatred between nations.

“The concept of harmonious coexistence of ethnic, religious and cultural in Sabah and the people here has always enjoyed all kinds of festive celebration.

“But now a certain group of people is causing hatred in an attempt to destroy the peace and harmony of the country.

“We, therefore, urged the government and relevant authorities to investigate this group and its motive so appropriate action can be taken against it,” he said in a statement after lodging a police report at the Karamunsing pokice station recently.

Shen Fei said, “The people of Sabah do not welcome this kind of extremist thinking that can undermine national harmony.

“If necessary, this group of people should be removed from the state to prevent other groups from doing the same thing and destroy the solidarity of Sabah,” he said.

Shen Fei also pointed out that a similar Christmas celebration organised by Sabah Tourism Board in Kota Kinabalu was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, which portayed unity and harmony by all Malaysians.

Shen Fei added that although the group responsible had made a public apology, it had seriously hurt the feelings of many Sabahans.

“I hope such a matter will not reccur in the future as we Sabahan and Malaysians want to live in peace and harmony as a nation,” he said.
