Two cars for 'Hole in One' among prizes at KPD golf

KOTA KINABALU: Two cars will be among the up to RM100,000 worth of prizes up for grabs in the Rural Developmen­t Corporatio­n (KPD) Open Golf Tournament 2019 on January 19.

The revival of the tournament, which was last held in 2014, will be held at Dalit Bay and Country Club, Tuaran starting at 7am.

KPD Board chairman Honorsius Datuk Alfred Bosuin said at a press conference at Dalit Bay yesterday.

He said KPD hoped the tournament would generate funds for KPD Rural Club, which is funded by KPD officers and staff.

A portion of the proceeds from the tournament would be donated to nongovernm­ental organizati­ons (NGOs), he added.

The tournament fee is RM350 per person. The registrati­on for participan­ts is at 6.30am and the tee-off time is 7.30am.

This tournament format is the 36 Modified Stableford System.

"We are targeting 100 participan­ts in this tournament. As of today, over 80 golfers have confirmed their participat­ion in the tournament.

"There are a total of 75 prizes for winners and the luck draw. On top of that players will receive a goody bag worth RM100 inclusive of balls, a hat and KPD products.

"This ensures that all players will have something to bring home," Honorsius said, while thanking everyone for supporting the tournament­s, especially sponsors.

The four main sponsors are Fook Loi Sdn Bhd, Hotel IBIS, Sabah Sanctuary Sdn Bhd and Keluarga Timur Sdn bhd.

“We hope that through this tournament we will generate funds for the KPD Rural Club, which comprises officers and employees as members who are also part of the organising committee.

“Other than that, the tournament will be a platform to promote KPD products to the general public while some part of the funds will be donated to local charities,” he said.

Meanwhile, KPD deputy general manager-cum-tournament director, Dr. Rainal Lasumin informed that the tournament which is using a System 36 Stableford format, is scheduled for teeoff at 7.30am by shotgun.

“There will be a Proton Saga 1.3 and a Proton Iriz 1.3 as the main Hole-in-One prizes, while others will be for the top 20 winners. There are also special prizes for the VVIP category.

“We also prepared novelty prizes for Nearest to the Pin, Nearest to the Line, Target Pin, Longest Drive and Bull Eyes,” Rainal said.

Also present at the ceremony was KPD general manager Kalimin Sahadi, Keluarga Timur Sdn Bhd general manager Dennis Lim and Sabah Sanctuary director John Nip.
