Consumers advised to report to ministry about unusual eggs

-

MIRI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has yet to receive any formal complaint about unusual eggs from any consumer here.

This matter was highlighted by KPDNHEP Miri head Joe Azmi Jamil, in response to a video recording made by a local woman, who claimed that a couple of eggs that she fried had plastic-like textures on their whites.

Nevertheless, Joe advised the woman to lodge a formal complaint to the ministry, which could be done online via www. kpdnhep.gov.my.

“Please report cases like this directly to us, or to the Health Department. For us, we would carry out investigation and also send samples to the Department of Chemistry,” he said of the video recording, which was sent to him by Utusan Borneo.

It is learnt that the woman, who lives in Piasau, was preparing dinner for her family on Saturday when she noticed the plastic-like layer on the egg whites.

In total, she fried five eggs – one at a time.

“The first three eggs looked and tasted normal. When frying the next two, I noticed a weird plastic-like texture on the egg whites.

“Seeing that, I felt disgusted,” said the 34-year-old, adding that her father bought the eggs from a hawker’s van in Krokop a couple of days ago.

“My father bought two trays of eggs that day.”

She then recorded a 31second video of the suspiciouslooking eggs and shared the recording with Utusan Borneo via WhatsApp. The footage shows the whites of the last two eggs that she fried had become hard and translucent, just like a layer of plastic – unlike the ones that she cooked earlier, where the yolks and the whites appeared normal.
