KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) wants Parti Pribumi PPBM Malaysia (PPBM) to keep its word and not spread its wings to Sabah as agreed before the 14th General Election.

Warisan president, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the party was more than capable of managing and governing the state.

“I have had my say on the matter, including our stand (that Warisan can manage the state government and PPBM need not spread its wings to Sabah) before the election.

“At the last election, PPBM heard our stand and now, after the election, I hope they will still heed our stand,” he told reporters after attending Warisan’s Christmas Open House yesterday.

The Chief Minister explained that he had not met with Prime Minister and PPMB president, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to discuss former UMNO members’ ongoing call for PPBM to be established in Sabah.

“I have already indicated to them what is our stand. Even before the election also I have already indicated, with regard to what is important. We can stabilize what we have here,” he said.

“Of course, it will take time for some of these guys to realize where they are, where they want to go. But what is important, I think we have a government that is friendly to the current Pakatan Harapan in Sabah.

“The last election they did listen to me. So I hope after the election they will still listen. What is important for us is to work together. I think we can deliver the government. We can work closely together to ensure the government not only in Sabah but the whole country, will always be supportive of what they have in Kuala Lumpur,” he explained.

Shafie said the ruling government’s ‘change’ theme is in line with the Peninsular’s sentiment for change.

“We have been very supportive. There is no question of us undermining it, no. So what is important I think we know those politicians in Sabah very well than them. We know those politicians in Sabah better than them,” he emphasized.

Several Sabah UMNO leaders who have left the party, were reported to be keen to join PPBM and open up a chapter in Sabah.

Dr Mahathir recently said that PPBM will not spread its wings to Sabah.

However he said Sabah people can join PPBM but he did not say how without the party having its chapter in the state.

Sabah UMNO recently lost nine of its 10 assemblymen, five of its six MPs and 22 of 25 division chiefs.

Among those who quit were Sabah UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor and MPs Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (Beluran), Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun (Beaufort), Datuk Rahim Bakri (Kudat), Yamani Hafez Musa (Sipitang) and Datuk Zakaria Edris (Libaran).
