Chamber to identify business opportunities to beef up Beluran economy
BELURAN: The Beluran Chinese Chamber of Commerce has pledged full co-operation to the district council here to work together to beef up the economic activities of the district in order to achieve a win-win situation.
Its president, Tsen Kin Enn, said the chamber had begun a study to identify potential developments of business and industry sectors by gathering information from the local business community and the public on local demand for goods and services, infrastructures development, power and water supply and others.
“Once we have completed the study, we will forward it to the district council for further action. Our objective is to make Beluran more attractive to investors, and, hopefully, this would work and further stimulate the economic activities here to greatly benefit the locals as well,” he said.
According to him, sea produce and agriculture (palm oil estate) remain the main source of income for Beluran, while most of the sea produce cater to the demand from Kota Kinabalu. The palm oil plantations owned by peninsula companies provide work opportunity for the locals.
Tsen was speaking to reporters after a courtesy call on the newly appointed Beluran district officer, Nordin Daling, together with the chamber’s secretary, Roland Sze Kui Sin, deputy secretary Mecky Wong Siew Ching, treasurer Chia Pak Shing, and exco members, Mike Chia, and Lai Yet Min.
