USCCAKK gets rental fee discount for CNY event at Likas Sports Complex
KOTA KINABALU: The Youth and Sports Ministry of Sabah has offered a 50 percent discount on the rental fee for Likas Sports Complex to support the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival and Cultural Village Exhibition organized by The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK).
Its minister, Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, delivered the good news after a briefing on the event by USCCAKK president, Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen, during a courtesy call here.
Poon also said that Susan’s son, Jonathan Wong, was an outstanding athlete and has made the country proud in winning a medal in the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Susan encouraged the younger generation to take a more active role in the Chinese New Year activities.
She said the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival and Cultural Village Exhibition could be the first step for youths to get in touch with their cultural roots.
“Apart from the dragon, unicorn and lion dances, the Cultural Village Exhibition provides a platform for people to learn more about the food and tea cultures presented by the 15 clan associations in Kota Kinabalu. Each of the associations will introduce and display a variety of Chinese New Year pastries and teas originating from their Chinese hometowns,” she said.
Susan also hoped that the younger generation would join Chinese community associations when they join the society to serve the community and preserve their culture.
She said the Cultural Village Exhibition featuring Chinese tea cultures and pastries, will be held at the corridor of Likas Sports Complex starting from 8.30 am onwards on January 19.
It will be launched by the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Liang Caide.
The Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival, she disclosed, would take place from 12.30 pm to 7 pm on the same day. The event will be officiated by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal.
Apart from the thrilling dragon, unicorn and lion dances, there will be a special appearance by the God of Fortune, luminous dragon dance and 24 drums performance.
