Korean boost for Sabah soft tennis
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Soft Tennis Association (SSTA) could not have asked for better start to New Year 2019.
For a start, a collaboration with the Korea Soft Tennis Association (KSTA) will see a team from Daegu Bank, Korea coming over for a soft tennis clinic.
A statement from SSTA yesterday revealed that KSTA general manager Kim Tae Ju confirmed that coach Cho Keyoung Soo would conduct the clinic for beginners and advanced players for two weeks.
The team will arrive on January 21 and will stay here until February 15.
Cho will be assisted by seven lady mentors Cho EunJeong, Park DaSom, Kim JiYeon, Kim Miae, Kim Jisu, Seo Yeon Hee and Kim You Rim for the soft tennis camp which will commence with a tournament for all participants.
The partnership with the KSTA was made possible by SSTA official KK Chin during the Asian Soft Tennis Federation (ASTF) General Assembly held at Chiangmai, Thailand last December.
SSTA president Richard Shak also invites the public to witness the soft tennis training and “to try out the game of soft tennis”.
For more information, interested participants can contact Yenny Yapp 0128253809 or KK Chin at 0128229390.
Another exciting news for the sport is that the SSTAled campaign to establish a new Malaysia Soft Tennis Association (MSTA) has been successful.
The efforts put in took a positive development with the initial approval under registration No: 10190/2018.
“I will go to the Sports Commissioner’s Office to collect the Certificate next week and we will have to see what are the terms and condition set upon for us to comply within a period of time,” said MSTA pro-team president Shamshuzaman Bin Sulaiman.
Commenting on MSTA, Chin who was recently appointed by the ASTF to the top post as Technical Delegate for Soft Tennis to the 30th Philippine SEA Games in Manila on December 1-10 2019, was confident the Sports Commissioner’s Office will support their campaign.
He said this would eventually lead to Malaysia’s participating in the SEA Games soft tennis competition .
Meanwhile, SSTA treasurer Justin Liew Vun Shin will represent the association as an observer to the Taiwan Soft Tennis Open Championship from January 23-26 at the request of the Chinese Taipei Soft Tennis Association.
