Mayor supports FCAS in organising CNY Carnival

KOTA KINABALU: Mayor Datuk Nordin Siman has pledged full support for The Federation of Chinese Associatio­ns Sabah (FCAS) in organizing the annual Chinese New Year Carnival.

He said Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) would provide assistance in terms of security, facilities and venue to make the event a success.

Nordin said this during a courtesy call by FCAS led by president Tan Sri Dr T.C. Goh, here.

He also said that the federation was the most suitable body to organize the Chinese New Year Carnival.

The carnival will be held at Lintasan Deasoka at Gaya Street on February 1 and 2.

Programmes for the two-day carnival include cultural and singing performanc­es, dance competitio­n, fireworks display and hawker stalls along Gaya Street.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal is expected to officiate at the opening of the event on February 1, whereas the Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environmen­t Datuk Christina Liew will grace the closing ceremony the next day.

Meanwhile, Goh said FCAS would fully support Nordin as the new mayor.

He hoped the mayor would bring new concepts and better future for Kota Kinabalu folks.

Also present at the courtesy call were FCAS vice president Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen, Datuk Chua Soon Ping, Kapitan Fung Chun Fatt, Lim Vun Chan and secretary general Datuk Yong Soo Pin.
