Players’ release fees help associations get funds

-

KOTA BHARU: The adoption of the player’s transfer fee by several teams in the Malaysian League (Liga-M) will enable them to get funds to plan their grassroot development programmes.

Former Kelantan national player from the 80s, Mohd Anizan Daud said the era of modern football needed a reform to generate income and plan developments to turn out more players of quality and value.

‘’I think there is a need for a transfer value for players who are under 23 and below who are of quality. Associations can at least take pride from it and can use the fund for grassroot development.

‘’We are heading towards professionalism and there must be reform in the national football arena to continue raising the competition with other countries,’’ he told Bernama yesterday.

The players release clause became the focus of local fans after several teams started to adopt it in their players’s contract to check ‘back door’ negotiations.

This included the release clause of national player Akhyar Rashid which was fixed at RM12 million by Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) while Selangor placed a RM6 million tag on the national squad defender Syahmi Safari.

Mohd Anizan said the associations had the right to impose reasonable prices based on the quality, performance and age of a player.

‘’The term of transfer value, with a certain payment based on the capability of the player, to contribute to the success of the team.

‘’The duration of the contract the current performance are among the deciders to the association and team to fix a release clause value on a player,’’ he said.
