CM checks on cleanliness in Semporna

-

SEMPORNA: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal urged the people to practise a culture of cleanliness and educate the younger generation of its importance.

“Those at the top to others down the line must move to make sure that their surroundings are clean, and eventually the general public will follow suit,” he said during a speech at a meeting of public servants and Semporna district customary heads with the Chief Minister here yesterday.

“We’ll have to start from the top and I am quite sure the rest will follow suit,” he said.

“But it must be on a wide scale and a very forceful kind of move that is to ensure that people will be on board not only in terms of their culture but also to reduce whatever activities that can dampen the intention for us to grow as a developed state,” he said.

“I am quite confident people will willingly be participating and wanting to see not only the district but Sabah a beautiful and clean state,” he said.

“I am sure the tourists will be happier, there will be more tourists coming here because it is very healthy,” he said.

The Chief Minister also called on the community not to shame the district as a dirty town.

Shafie urged all the villagers from any states of living, to stop throwing rubbish into the sea.

He also asked parents to teach their children to throw trash into rubbish bin and not into the sea as this will destroy the marine habitat.

He also advised them not to put their rubbish in plastic and throw into the sea, a practice that must stop.

Earlier, Shafie went on a walkabout and check on the cleanliness in Semporna town accompanied by district officer Bianus Kontong.
