Chong said that he is confident of the new board and would continue the vision and the wonderful work of the previous governors led by Fong Tet Kong.

“It is with great hope that the new board of governors will be able to share their experience and contribute expertise to bring the institution to greater heights,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Moving forward, the Board of Governors foresee that the demand for trained applied technologists in the application, implementation and maintenance of Chinese-technology based systems; platform and products should rise with the growing adoption of Chinese technology.

This can be seen through China’s economic success, impressive modern infrastructure development and international trade achievements. In fact, China has nine of the world’s top 20 tech giants.

In its effort to support the nation’s human capital talent development, the Board of Governors has been looking to the East as one of its strategic missions, seeking collaboration with dynamic

Chinese tertiary institutions, hence taping into China’s trade and technological expertise.

For a start, there are plans for a group of Diploma in Commerce students to go on a study trip to Shenzhen during their semester break in March 2019. They will be hosted by Shenzhen Polytechnic, China’s premier polytechnic in Guangdong Province.

Their itinerary includes a visit of the city, campus orientation and information regarding Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Success Story. This also includes industry visits to China’s Tech Giants and experiential excursions to Shenzhen’s foremost financial district, as well as its famed and enormous Civic Center infrastructure and amenities.

The Shenzhen study trip is designed to help Institut Sinaran’s students broaden their career horizon and to be inspired by the accomplishments of such a young city and how to expand on

these possibilities for themselves and Kota Kinabalu City. This is to also open a gateway for the institute’s students to widen their academic experiences in technological aspect, as well as an avenue for career advancements.

Established in 1987, Institut Sinaran is now the largest Cambridge GCE A-Level Centre in East Malaysia. Aside from offering Science and Commerce A-Levels with an outstanding track record of having more than 94 percent passing rate for the past two years, it also offers Diploma in Commerce accredited by MQA (Malaysian Qualification Agency) and ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

As the only ACCA listed learning provider in Sabah, the institute is also offering the ACCA Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) program.
